Philadelphia-based singer and teacher Julia Natoli is a native of Rochester, NY, and received her Professional Performer’s Certificate in Voice and Master of Music in Voice Performance and Pedagogy degree from Penn State University. She has 14 years of experience leading programs and teaching voice, piano, and performance-based classes and workshops at universities, theatres, community schools, private schools, and non-profits across Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey. She is thrilled to be entering her 5th year at Tim Welch Vocal Studio where she serves as the studio’s Director of Education and the Lead Instructor.
As the Director of Education, Julia trains the TWVS faculty and oversees their ongoing continuing education opportunities, ensuring that the studio’s teaching is pedagogically driven, unified in approach, and up-to-date with the latest developments and best practices in the everchanging, multi-faceted voice industry. She develops and implements the comprehensive vision for TWVS’s educational offerings and, along with studio founder Tim Welch, drives both the business and artistic vision of the studio. She also organizes community-based partnerships and collaborative live events that bring students, teachers, and local businesses together to celebrate the magic of singing and live music making. As a passionate musician and art administrator, Julia is motivated by creating a studio culture for teachers and students alike that fosters artistic authenticity, healthy technique, and an insatiable desire to keep learning!
Since moving to Philly in 2021, she has appeared in multiple regional productions as a cross-over artist from opera into musical theatre. Some of her favorite roles include Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls (The Levoy Theatre), Girl in Once (City Theatre Company), Ilse Neumann (The Milton Theatre), and Rosalie Mullins in School of Rock (The Ritz Theatre). In addition to performing, she is also an avid marathon runner, registered yoga teacher, and 2nd degree black belt who enjoys using these experiences to guide her teaching of singing as an integrated mind/body experience. These experiences, along with her love of continuing education and ongoing voice studies, reinforce her philosophy of having the mindset of a lifelong student. When she isn’t singing or teaching, she enjoys all things epicurean and spending time with her two excellent cats, Renata and Mirella.
